Senior IT Systems Administrator – UK

Location: UK – Remote 

Position Summary

A very experienced lead Systems Administrator to manage the infrastructure supporting the delivery of data rich enterprise SaaS applications to Scalable’s customers. This is a rare opportunity to lead the Technical Operations function and be involved in all aspects of maintaining and advancing the technologies employed.

About You

Part of a small, focused team, you will be used to leading the Operations function in a proactive manner, liaising with DevOps, Developers and others in an agile environment. An analytical problem solver, you will be an expert in the deployment, management and root cause analysis of products deployed on Linux based environments, especially SaaS products delivered from the cloud. Always looking for opportunities to make improvements, you are ideally interested in a flexible working environment where your contribution is valued as much for your ideas as your hands on skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the production and development technical estate.
  • Own and be responsible for all aspects of network and OS security.
  • Identify improvements in all relevant processes and automation tools, work with DevOps on specifying and testing requirements and solutions.
  • Keep abreast of emerging standards while promoting industry accepted best practices in software development and design.
  • Manage your time and work both independently and as a part of an agile development team.
  • Mentor, train and assist junior team members.

Essential Skills

  • Extremely experienced in Linux systems administration and production fault root cause analysis.
  • Very good knowledge of network and OS security design and practices, security monitoring and remediation of issues.
  • Good experience of configuring and managing cloud-based delivery infrastructure, including cost control.
  • Good experience of implementing and managing virtualisation technologies, e.g. VMWare.
  • Experience of managing junior team members, mentoring and training where necessary.
  • Success in this role will involve a lot of interaction with other team members of both technical and non-technical backgrounds. Good collaboration skills are a must.
