Extensible Schema

Scalable has designed LIVE! from the ground up to support an ITAM development framework for customer and partner driven applications. These applications will invariably require their own schema definitions in order to function efficiently. Consequently, LIVE! supports virtually unlimited schema extensions, including native access control list support and atomic platform upgrade support. Customers and partners alike can add in additional tables and even columns to existing product tables for their own benefit and schema extensions can be linked back to core tables. Whether the requirement is data integration, additional reporting capabilities or data consolidation – LIVE! fully supports schema extensions whilst allowing the platform to be upgraded independent of these schema additions.

Dynamic discovery can also take advantage of the extensible schema architecture, as new systems are encountered and new probes developed, the schema can be extended based on business drivers and not technological limitations. This facility becomes even more powerful when the Impex (Import/Export) function is exploited within LIVE! By combining the LIVE! discovery engine with our dynamic Impex function, data can be enumerated from almost any source and pre-processed before being inserted into the standard or extended schema. This allows data to be transformed into contextually relevant information before it even hits the database – without human intervention.

From start to finish, it normally takes only a few minutes to define an import or export stream from or to a 3^rd party information source, and relate the data to existing information contained within the LIVE! back-end. Once defined all future impex processing occurs entirely automatically according to user-defined schedules. LIVE! provides full programmatic control of the impex environment to our development partners.
